Storage Unit Auction Policy

LESSON 1 :
The first thing you must learn is that each facility has certain rules that they follow and certain processes that they must adhere to. These policies and rules vary from facility to facility. Geographic’s play an important part as well, being that certain aspects of the process are mandated by state legislation.

HOW TO BECOME A BIDDER: With that out of the way, let's talk about the auction and how it is typically conducted. Every auction is advertised to begin at a certain time and date. The owner of the storage units contacts Blair Auction & Appraisal with a upcoming auction list. By no means is the Blair Auction & Appraisal held responsible for the actual listing, only the information provided by the seller at that time. So please check back to the website frequently, prior to auction dates. All bidders are expected to be there prior to the beginning of the auction. Usually, there is a signup process in which you meet with the auctioneer or the staff and provide your name, address and phone number. You will get your bidder number at that time. YOU MUST REGISTER TO BID.

Once everyone has registered and the time has come to begin, the group of bidders walk with the auctioneer to the first unit that will go up for bid. Either prior to, or once you arrive at the first unit, the auctioneer will explain the rules for the auction and any other information that is pertinent to the bidding process.

OPENING THE UNIT: After the formalities are complete, the lock is removed from the unit and the door is opened. Depending on the auctioneer and the facility, the unit will be auctioned as a whole unit,. the auctioneer will step away from the unit and allow the bidders to look inside. You are to remain outside the unit and you are not permitted to touch the contents of the unit.

START THE BIDDING: After everyone has had a chance to look, the auctioneer will start the bidding. If you are unfamiliar with the auction process, sometimes it’s better to observe the first time.
